According to the Health and Safety Executive(HSE) in U.K., 526,000 workers suffering from work-related stress, depression or anxiety and 12.5 million working days lost due to work-related stress, depression or anxiety in 2016-2017 only in the U.K. alone. In the report of Attitudes of the American Workplace VII, 80% of workers feel stress on the job, nearly half say they need help in learning how to manage stress and 42% say their coworkers need such help. This is a massive problem that isn’t given much focus.
Catching it early means a lot to an individual. It could prevent a much worse complications related to stress such as Anxiety/Panic attacks and even Depression. Depression may even result in death or suicide. It is common in Japan that it even has a term, they call it “Karoshi” or “Overwork death”. Which maybe caused by heart attack, stroke, starvation diet, and suicide. It is alarming that this is also spreading at an alarming rate across Asia. What is Stress
Stress is a natural phenomenon. It is our body’s reaction to outside predators and danger. Known as the fight of flight response.
In times of stress, our body floods our blood streams with stress hormones such as cortisol, epinephrine and norepinephrine. Which increases our heart rate and increases muscle preparedness, as a response to a challenging situation. It is good in some way, giving us alertness and more willpower to finish a daunting task. However, everything that is too much is bad.
Too much stress can lead to the following health problems such as:

Main Causes of Work Related Stress
Job demand, long work hours, unending deadlines and many more. This causes you’re to rush in the busy world. Going home early and there maybe a moment that you’re would forget to take care of yourself. Causing you to take less care of yourself leading to serious health problems. In addition, according to research, long work hours is even linked to more alcohol and smoking dependence which would make the situation even worse.
2. Juggling Work and Personal Life
Let us be honest. There are times that we can’t separate work and our personal life. Especially when times are really tough. All of us get through it at certain times in our lives. We forget to balance out our work and personal life. Leading to the feeling of being alone. You feel that work is becoming your life but never forget that work is just a part of our life. Life is more than that, I am not saying that you’re should leave your work. In fact, you work in order to live, to buy your needs and wants in this life. We need money in order to live in this world. What you need to understand is that you’re should give time on what is important to you’re.
3. People Issues
People surround is and at times, they are the one causing stress to us, leading us to work inefficiently. Reducing our productivity and making work harder to finish. What is worse is with a reduced productivity, we tend to overwork due to the deadlines to be finished. We may also not make a good job in finishing the task due to the reduction of our concentration at work.
Let us admit it, even if we are professionals, there are times that it is hard to separate work and our personal life. Our relatives or someone dear to us may be experiencing some challenges in life, affecting our work. Maybe it is losing someone dear to you’re, and you’re can’t leave work since you’re haven’t files your leave instantly, believe me, I have been there. I understand, and it caused serious pain inside.
Sometimes, even your workmates are the cause of your stress. They give you work that isn’t fair, difficult people that we need to work with. Your boss that gives you’re impossible deadlines, forcing you to take an overtime, that they won’t pay you’re for since it is not approved by the HR. I have also been in that situation. These things might cause your stress in work.
4. Job Security
Yes, this adds to stress. The feeling that because you’re failed to meet a deadline and affected the company seriously, makes you’re think that they may at anytime fire you’re. So your mind goes on thinking that what if they do? Where will I go? How can I feed myself? How can I pay rent? Will I get a new job immediately? Your brain will go to an overdrive and it will surely make you feel crazy.

According to integrasurvey, 42% of their respondents reported that yelling and other verbal abuse in their workplace is common. This is not surprising since too much stress shuts our prefrontal cortex and activates our amygdala or the reptilian brain causing us to show violence in times of stress. Ever wonder why when you’re are very stressed, you’re tend to shout at people? It is because of that. So make sure to check yourself for those.
Absentism is another symptom. In fact, sick leaves due to stress skyrocketed ever since 1996. When you’re forget to take care of yourself, it would weaken your body and would cause a lot of health issues. Not just that, some people will just not go to work because they are feeling demotivated due to the surrounding stress.
3. Burn out
Burn out, the feeling of being severely unmotivated to do something. Maybe caused by unmotivated by a superior or sometimes, unending stress.having burnout sometimes is normal, especially in an over demanding work. But take note that if it occurs regularly, it is unhealthy for you’re.

Which is bad not just on your physical health, but mental health as well. It is true that alcohol is a sedative, so it can relieve stress for a short while, but the side effects of drinking alcohol too often is not worth it. In fact, recent researched suggest that no amount of alcohol is good for you’re body. The same goes for
smoking, the side effects are not just worth it.
6. Psychiatric disorders
Severe stress might make you feel demotivated, causing you to give up on life causing depression. Sometimes, too much stress may lead to anxiety. If you feel that there is something wrong with your mental health, please do not hesitate to consult a specialist.
